Good condition

The present lithograph is a work by the Austrian artist Hans Fronius and dates back to 1970. It depicts a naked male body on a stretcher, surrounded by two bald headed men in black suits. The motifs were executed in a very expressive and intense style that is capable of telling a whole story.

The lithograph on wove paper is in good condition considering its age. The sheet shows two slight diagonal kinks as well as some scattered crease marks. The work is signed and dated with pencil lower right ‘Hans Fronius 70’. At the lower left side it is numbered with pencil ‘14/120’ as well as titled ‘Hiob’. The sheet size is 49.5 x 67.5 cm. The image measures 34 x 51.5 cm.

Hans Fronius (1903-1988)
Hans Fronius was born in Sarajevo , where he was as a ten year old boy witness of the assassination of the Austrian heir apparent. Fronius studied in Vienna at the Academy and was influenced in his style by his close friend Alfred Kubin. In 1931, he taught art at a Gymnasium. To escape his military duty, Fronius fled to Switzerland, where he also worked at the beginning as an art teacher before he became a successful independent artist. Some of his works can be found at the Museum of Military History in Vienna.(cbo)
