Hans Olaf Heyerdahl (Dalarne 1857-1913 Kristiania)Double Portrait of Anna Margrethe Wriedt, née Kjosterud (1830-1912) and her Grand- daughter Margrethe Giese (born 1887), signed Heyerdahl, Oil on canvas, 63 x 79 cm, framed, (GS) Provenance: South German Private Collection Anna Margrethe Wriedt was the wife of the brewer Johann Christian Wriedt in Drammen (Norway). She was one of the young Heyerdahl's promoters in Drammen. Heyerdahl is counted among the most important 19th Century Scandinavian painters. He studied at the Munich Academy of Art and then in Paris under Bonnat and was influenced by the 'Pleinair' school. He made very good copies after Bellini, Raphael and Rembrandt. He was also a talented portraitist. After his 2-year trip to Italy, he returned to Oslo in 1884. His work was a great influence on the young Munch.
