Very similar in style to the coat of arms for Hans Heinrich Stächelin, executed in stained glass by Hans Sur in 1585 (Fig. 1; P.L. Ganz, Die Basler Glasmaler der Spätrenaissance und der Barockzeit, Basel, 1966, p. 168, fig. 54). It is likely therefore that the present drawing was executed at around the same date.
