Description

These U.S. Model 1803 Rifles were manufactured from 1803-1807 and 1814-1820. Most well known as the issue weapon for the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Barrel is 36 inch round part octagon with fixed front brass sight and fixed rear sight. The rifle barrel, receiver, breechblock, hammer and frizzen are brown. The left barrel flat is marked "US" and "eagle head/P" in small ovals. The lock plate is marked: "HARPERS / FERRY / 1818" and eagle with shield symbol between the hammer and flash pan. The rifle has brass furniture and patchbox. Metal ramrod with threaded end. The stock is oil finished walnut.
