affixed to the stretcher.
Oil on canvas, 20 x 24 in. (50.5 x 61.0 cm), framed.
Condition: Minor retouch, rippling, surface grime.

N.B. According to a label affixed to the stretcher, Design for Living was exhibited at the 12th Annual New Jersey State exhibition, Montclair, in 1942, and in a two-man show at the Irvington Museum in 1943. A second label recounts the artist's description of this scene as "...typical of small houses in small towns all over the country."

The full text of the descriptive label reads, "Design for Living/This is like a pattern for a hooked rug and never varied all summer. Finally realized it was typical of small houses in small towns all over the country."
