Item Overview

Description

The surprising subject matter is not the little house in the idyllic Swedish countryside, but rather the milk table in front. In Sweden, each house has one of these out front for milk men pick up empty milk jugs and leave full ones. Helge Bernhard Lundström, born 5 May 1923 in Gislöv, Östra Nöbbelöv parish in Kristianstad county, died 25 August 2011 in Brantevik in Simrishamn parish. Helge Lundström was a Swedish painter, illustrator and graphic artist. Lundström studied art with Isaac Grünewald in 1946 and at Otte Sköld's painting school in 1947 as well as taking study trips to the Netherlands and England. He held solo exhibitions in Simrishamn and participated in group exhibitions with Skåne's art association and at Liljevalch's Stockholm salons and for several years in the Easter exhibition at Österlen. Among his public works are murals in Skillinge, Sparbank and in Kivik. Kvik’s 100 meter square Apple Board mural has been added to annually for 30 years to celebrate Kivik's Harvest Festival. His art consists of still lifes, animals, figurative motifs and landscapes from Österlen and the French Riviera. Notable books he’s illustrated include Birgitta Geite’s book Sten, water, plants and Karin Brunk Holmqvist's collection of poems Nära verkligheten.
