Commissioned by George Hendrik Matthes (1709-1790), for his residence 'Vlietsorg', Amsterdam, in 1775-76; thence by descent; probably brought to the summer residence 'Queeckhoven', Breukelen by Joan Adam van Lankeren Matthes (1819-1905) in 1860, and thence by descent; brought to the house on the Oranje Nassaulaan, Amsterdam by Dirk van Lankeren Matthes (b. 1898) in 1911. >Purchased from the latter, together with the house on the Oranje Nassaulaan in Amsterdam, by the Grandfather of the present owners in 1921.
