Notes

Millot was apprenticed to Nicolas de Largillière in Paris before 1699, and Largillière would remain his strongest influence until the end of his career. Although a member of the Guild of St. Luke in Paris, his peripatetic career saw him travel widely in Europe; to Munich, for example, from 1721-24, and to Strasbourg in 1730. His small oeuvre consists in its entirety of portraits, examples of which are to be found in the Château de Schleissheim and the Museum of Foreign Art, Helsinki.
