Henrik Hakansson is a Swedish artist based in Berlin and London. Through his videos, sound works, and complex installations, Henrik Hakansson extracts fragments from natural cycles that he documents and recreates. Often with the aid of sophisticated technological means, the artist observes the growth of plants, birds, and insects, examining the possible forms that a dialog between humans and nature can take. His installation work combines elements of scientific research on biodiversity with technology, focusing on the relationship between human beings and plants, animals, birds and insects. The nature of observation, and notions of fragmentation and isolation are prevalent in most of his work, as are references to popular film and music culture. Hakansson has a prolific history of exhibitions, recent solo shows include Palais De Tokyo Paris (2006), The Dunker Culture Centre, Helsinborg (2004) and Bonner Kunstverein (2003). In 2004 he participated in the São Paulo Biennial and in Utopia Station at the 50th Venice Biennial (2003). In September 2005 Hakansson participates in the Lyon Biennial. His solo An Introduction to The Birds was shown at de Appel in 2003.
