Henry Arnold was a French painter and sculptor who exhibited at the Société Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris from 1906, becoming a member in 1911. The present marble depicts a standing female nude. Supported by a post and with her head turned to her left, the figure is compositionally reminiscent of examples of antique statuary such as the Medici Venus. However, with her subtle contours and stylised features, Arnold's figure looks forward to the sculpture of later generations.
