Presumably acquired by Annabel, Countess de Grey and Baroness Lucas (1750-1833) and by inheritance through her nephew Thomas Philip, 2nd Earl de Grey to the vendors.

Henry Liverseege was born in Manchester and is best known for his cabinet-sized genre and literary subjects, which were mainly taken from Scott, Shakespeare and Cervantes. This work shows the influence of Richard Parkes Bonnington (1802-28). Much patronzied by fellow northerners, his career was cut short by his untimely death in 1832.

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis
