CATALOGUE NOTE

I wanted to make a work about five thousand years of Chinese history and its unchanging political system. China has been dominated by tyranny for thousands of year and is still a one-party rule symbolizes its persistence. The jeweled bird represents the emperor's concubines. The concubine has been left to die which symbolizes the suffocation of artistic expression by tyranny. Over time I have come to see the dead bird as the embodiment for my own self. In facing the world, I close my eyes tightly.
