Notes

LITERATURE:
„THE RED SHOULD LANGUISH AND GREEN MUST GROW''
P31. 1998.
Hong Lei is one of Chinese most important contemporary
concept photographers, perhaps, as he himself said, he is the
artist ''who first excavates meaning of images from the perspective
of ancient culture''. From about the mid-1990s, by the
method of posture and post-production design, he creates
one after another startling image of the nightmare: bleeding
Suzhou gardens, dead birds buried by jewelry before palaces,
Lotus dotted with dead fly bodies and burning Peony Pavilion.
In Hong''s works, the aesthetic and disguised pretence of
ancient classical painting gives people the visual temptation,
and the ugliness of violence and death stimulates people''s
hearts, all these makes his work as cunning as miscellaneous
fables.
