Description

HONSA Jan (8. 6. 1876 Tisova nearVysoke Myto - 9. 9. 1937 Policka) Before spring Oil on cardboard, 22 x 32 cm, framed, glazed, undated, signed lower left, exhibition label from the exhibition in the museum in Hradec Kralove. Czech painter and graphic artist, he studied under J. Marak at the Academy of Arts in Prague. He went to France where he devoted himself to landscape painting, he travelled widely around Europe. In 1898 he became a member of Manes, Union Internationale des Beaux Arts in Paris and Kunstlerbund Hagen in Vienna. His work reached its peak at the turn of the century, when he abandoned Realism and turned to Art Nouveau. During World War I he produced mainly drawings of architecture, namely motifs from Prague.
