Description

* Hopkins (Arthur, 1848-1930). A country house, watercolour, of a gabled house with mullioned leaded windows and tall chimneys, within a walled garden, with a collie dog standing at the open gate, signed lower left, 25 x 35cm (9.75 x 13.75ins). Arthur Hopkins RWS, RBC, was an illustrator and a genre painter in watercolour and oil. He was educated at Lancing College and spent a few years in a city office before taking up art full-time. He entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1872, and started exhibiting at the principal London galleries. Hopkins contributed to 'The Graphic', 'Punch' and 'The Illustrated London News'.. (1)
