Description

Hopkins (Arthur, 1848-1930). 'Anyone at Home', watercolour, heightened with bodycolour, depicting a collie on the steps of a Cotswolds (or similar) manor house, signed lower left, 25 x 35cm (9.75 x 13.75ins), contemp. gilt frame, glazed, with old framer's label of J. Davey & Sons, Liverpool to verso. Arthur Hopkins, the brother of the poet Gerald Manley Hopkins, was a member of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours. He entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1872 and exhibited at the R.W.S. and the R.A. from that year. He contributed to The Graphic, Punch and the Illustrated London News. (1)
