PROVENANCE

Private collection, Belgium;
By whom sold, Amsterdam, Sotheby's, 12 November 1996, lot 111;
With Rafael Valls, London, 1997, where acquired by the father of the present owner.

NOTE

The Dordrecht artist Van Ravesteyn produced a rather small oeuvre of which most are signed with his monogram. Although this painting is unsigned, it is a very fine and typical example for his work. A number of motifs from this painting can be seen in various combinations in other still lifes by Van Ravesteyn, such as one in the Dordrechts Museum, Dordrecht (inv.no. DM/959/76) and another in the Museum Boymans van Beuningen, Rotterdam (inv.no. S 12).
