Note:
Born in Connecticut, Ian Falconer studied art history at New York University and painting at Parsons School of Design. He met David Hockney in New York and later moved to Los Angeles to work as Hockney's assistant and to attend Otis Art Institute. Together Falconer and Hockney created costume designs for many operas, including the acclaimed Los Angeles production of Tristan and Isolde. At the same time, Falconer enjoyed a successful career as a fine and commercial artist. He exhibited work at Kohn/Turner Gallery in West Hollywood and L.A. Louver Gallery in Venice. He also created cover illustrations for the New Yorker and several other publications. Today, Falconer is best known for his children's book series Olivia, which features the adventures of an imaginative young pig.
