Description

Important North Carolina miniature, thought to be a portrait of Freeman Woods (North Carolina, 1765-1834), a silversmith living in New Bern, North Carolina, 1794-1834, unsigned, attributed to Ezra Ames, New York, 1768-1836, watercolor on ivory, 2-3/4 x 2-1/8 in.; 18 kt. gold bezel case fitted as a brooch with verso set with window and a braid of dark hair. Some warping of ivory, water damage at left edge and verso within window.
