Description

Portrait shows young girl thought to be one of John Insco Williams daughters. He spent three years in Philadelphia as a pupil of Russell Smith and Thomas Sully. Born in 1813 Williams worked in Ohio and resided in Dayton in the 1860's. Housed in a gold gesso decorated shadow box. Signed lower right J. I. Williams. Prov. Descended in the Williams family to present owner. Exhibited at the Indianapolis and Dayton, Ohio Art Institute "Dayton Painters of the Past. SIGHT SIZE: 16" h x 13 1/2" w. CONDITION: Excellent. 9-78065.
