Lot 4124: Inman, Portrait of DeWitt Clinton, O/B

Henry Inman (American, 1801-1846), portrait of DeWitt Clinton, the sixth governor of New York and a driving force behind the Erie Canal, oil on board, 12" x 10", 17 1/2" x 15 1/2" (frame). Henry Inman was one of the foremost portraitists of the early 1800's. His subjects include many politicians such as Martin Van Buren and his pieces can be found in the White House collection and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Provenance: passed down in a family of Mayflower descendants.
