Isabella Francken was the daughter of Hieronymous Francken I. Ursula Härtung identifies two pictures by the artist: a Road to Calvary and a Witch scene, previously on the Belgian art market. She notes that the Witch scene comes very close to the compositions of the same subject by both Frans Francken II and Hieronymous Francken II. The present lot relates to two groups of paintings by Frans Francken of this subject, generally dating either to the first decade of the 17th Century or to circa 1618.
