Notes

The Novodevichy Convent in Moscow was founded in 1524 by Grand Prince Vasily III to commemorate his 1514 conquest of Smolensk. It is where many female members of the Romanov family were sent when forced to take the veil, such as Evdokhia Lopukhina, the first wife of Peter I.
