Christie’s charges a premium to the buyer on the Hammer Price of each lot sold at the following rates: 29.75% of the Hammer Price of each lot up to and including €20,000, plus 23.8% of the Hammer Price between €20,001 and €800.000, plus 14.28% of any amount in excess of €800.000. Buyer’s premium is calculated on the basis of each lot individually.
The art historian drs. Fred Leeman suggests in the entry of the catalogue of the Pulchri Studio sale, that the present lot is a second version made by the artist in 1876 after his famous painting 'The Harvest' (1862) with which he had tremendous success on the yearly exhibitions of Leevende Meesters in 1863, 1864 and 1865. A lithograph of this work was illustrated in the Kunstkronijk in 1862 and was titled 'De laatste kerkgang'. It is known that Vincent van Gogh had this lithograph pinned to the walls of his studio in Paris and Amsterdam in the 1870's and it has proved to be a huge inspriration for him. According to an annotation in the archives of the RKD in The Hague the present lot depicts a view on the village Vaassen and the forest of Cannenburgh.
