Notes

PROPERTY OF A PRIVATE COLLECTOR
Jacob van Walscapelle was born in Dordrecht in 1644. From there he moved to Amsterdam, where he was a student of Cornelis Kick from 1664-1667. In 1673 he entered the service of the municipal drapers' hall, where was still registered as working forty years later. There are almost no dated paintings after 1685, which confirms Arnold Houbraken's statement that Walscapelle only painted for a short time.
