Description

Philippe, Duc d'Orl‚ans (1674-1723), facing right in gilt-studded armour and lace cravat, full bottomed curling wig, wearing the blue sash of the Royal French Order of the Holy Ghost on vellum oval, 2 5/8 in. (67 mm.) high, reeded gilt-metal frame NOTES After the death of King Louis XIV in 1715, his nephew Philippe II, Duc d'Orl‚ans took the Regency for his infant cousin the future Louis XV, until 1723. He married in 1692 Mademoiselle de Blois, a legitimated natural daughter of King Louis XIV and his mistress Marquise de Montespan. Arlaud was court miniaturist to the Regent.
