Known predominantly for his genre scenes, Wingfield also produced some memorable interiors; amongst the finest is The Picture Gallery, Stafford House (now Lancaster House), St James's, 1848 (sold Christie's, London, 24 May 2002, lot 80, (£40,630); the current auction record for the artist).
