Lot 356: James Gresley (Br., 1829-1908), Pair of Pictures

both are oil on board, signed and dated "JG / '78," and presented in ornate pierced and gilt wood frames with composition ornament; the first depicting a fisherman by a river with a landscape vista beyond; the second with a young woman seated by a lane, a village visible beyond.
SS 18 x 7.5 in.; DOA 26 x 15 in.

Noted for his landscapes, James Gresley originally hailed from Derby and exhibited frequently there. Two exhibitions of his work were also held at the Suffolk Street Gallery and the New Watercolor Society.
