JAMES, Henry (1843-1916). English Hours. Boston & New York: Houghton, Mifflin/The Riverside Press, Cambridge, 1905. 8°, plates and illustrations by Joseph Pennell. Original pictorial cloth by Bruce Rogers, upper cover blocked with illustration of a sailboat on the Thames in gilt and grey, top edge gilt (slight rubbing of extremities, corners bumped, lower cover a little bent). PRESENTATION COPY TO F.M. HUEFFER, front free endpaper inscribed, "To Ford Madox Hueffer Henry James Rye, Nov: 7: 1905".

FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, ordinary issue of 2000 copies, costing $3 in cloth and $5 in half morocco (there was a simultaneous limited issue of 400 copies in half buckram). A collection of previously-published papers, it includes a chapter on "Winchelsea, Rye and 'Denis Duval'". Edel & Laurence A62b.
