Condition Report

Not viewed out of the frame. Original canvas. The canvas appears sound. There is some very slight rubbing around the extreme edges of the canvas. There are some lines of craquelure around the edges of the canvas, thought to be as a result of the stretcher bars beneath, which have resulted in some very small flecks of loss, most apparent at the corners of the work, the right vertical edge and the lower horizontal edge. There are some small scattered lines of craquelure across the work. There are some very small flecks of loss apparent to the upper left of the central window, to the white robes of the far bottom right figure, and towards the left lower horizontal edge beneath the kneeling figure. There are some light traces of surface dirt apparent towards the lower edge of the work. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in very good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals some light fluorescence of some of the pigments, which appear to be inkeeping with the artist's materials. There are areas which are slightly uneven in appearance. The work is float mounted and presented in a ornate painted wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
