James Roy Hopkins (Ohio, 1877-1969), "Tavern," c. 1904-1910, oil on panel, unsigned, estate stamped, measures 4x6 inches image, overall 9.5x11.5 inches framed, gallery label with detailed information to verso. CONDITION: Good, restored condition, panel curved, reinforced horizontal crack. PROVENANCE: Keny Galleries, Columbus, OH. Hopkins was a native Ohio artist who studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati under Frank Duveneck. He is known for his compassionate portrayal of the residents of the Appalachian communities within which he worked.
