James Thomas Poindexter (1832-1891) was born in Christian County, KY, and was married at the age of twenty. He and his wife relocated to Evansville, Indiana, where he launched his professional career. The Evansville Museum of Fine Arts and Historical Society hold several examples of his work. Although Poindexter spent a brief period in New Orleans and Granada, the majority of his active career was spent fulfilling commissions in Kentucky and Indiana, where Evansville is a bordering town.
