Lot 220: James Warren Childe (British, 1778-1862)

A pair of miniatures portraying Henry Lannoy Hunter (1802-1876) and his wife, Charlotte Octavia Codrington (d.1895): the former, standing before a Classical interior with landscape vista, wearing black coat, buff trousers, cream waistcoat, white chemise and black tied stock, his riding crop in his left hand; the latter, seated on a red upholstered settee, wearing black décolleté dress, white underslip with lace trim, a spray of flowers at her corsage, a long gold chain suspended from her neck, a miniature framed within a gold bracelet on her left arm, ermine tippet draped about her shoulders, her dark hair plaited, upswept and secured in place with a tortoiseshell comb, a book in her right hand, landscape beyond.
