An inscription from the artist, on an old label affixed to the back of the panel with the artist's seal, reads ...Marguerite devant le miroir chez Marthe-est peint par moi-meme. Anvers Janvier 1868 J.A. Neuhuys

Dirty varnish. Frame rubbing. 5 inch split in panel, upper right corner - through to back. 6 inch scratch lower right area. Several small scratches throughout. Damage from nails in frame along the edges. Scattered craquelure. There does not appear to be an inpainting/restoration. Although some of the darker pigments fluoresce under UV light - this should not be mistaken for restoration.
