Notes

Still lifes such as this painting are rare in Olis' oeuvre. Another kitchen interior, with two figures, is in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (inv. no. A296), and a breakfast still life is in the collection of Count Jean de Bousies, Brussels (see I. Bergström, 'Jan Olis as a Still Life Painter', in Oud Holland, 66, no. 1, 1951, p. 57, fig. 1).
