Item Overview

Description

János Schadl (Hungarian, 1892-1944) Cubist Head Charcoal on paper 24 x 17-1/2 inches (61 x 44.5 cm) (sight) Signed lower left: JSchadl Janos Schadl studied under Károly Ferenczy at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts from 1915-16. Breaking of his studies, he joined the circle of the Activists and worked in a spirit shared with the artists of the periodical MA. His rapturous devotion to motion-sensation and his strong talent as an Expressionist and Cubist draftsman lent Schadl's oeuvre a highly unique style. In 1919, the artist moved away from the Activists and into a self-induced exile. Consequently, early Cubist drawings such as Cubist Head rarely come to market. HID04901242017
