Jason Lim is one of Singapore's foremost visual artists with a significant body of work in ceramics. The present lot, White tower is a compelling interpretation of the basic straight vessel form where the artist employs his favoured methodology of repetition. Eschewing function to give emphasis to form, White tower is painstakingly hand-built with layers of pinched, coiled and flattened porcelain, one layer sediment onto another below. As the vessel takes form through the repeated building up of height, the process is not premeditated; the eventual object bears a pure simplicity and spontaneity.
