In his quest for an original abstract language and the creation of a new visual cosmos, Molfessis experimented with materials and forms, combining constructivist principles and geometric designs in highly expressive and lyrical compositions. Here, he uses patterns of ticker tape dots and perforations to explore the relationships between positive and negative space, light and shadow, high and low relief. The resulting interplay of solids and voids creates an extraordinary field of bent, curved and flowing matter, resembling, as art critic M. Skaltsa has perceptively noted, "an earthly creation adrift in the solar system."υ1
