Highly detailed and replete with memories reminiscent of her native city of Kolkata, this painting by Jayashree Chakravarty teems with bustling map-like imagery in a luminous palette of white, blue, brown and black. Using houses, signs and whirling calligraphic forms, Chakravarty creates an elaborate townscape amidst a series of concentric suns and jagged lines that produces the illusion of being continuously in motion. Such forms reconstruct the complex workings of self identification, dreams, and memory.
