Notes

PROPERTY FROM THE ESTATE OF JOHN R. GAINES

Each of these luminous sketches may appear simplistic with regard to the choice of subject matter, yet it is the changing atmospheric effects of sky and water which is of most concern to the artist. Gibert commonly sketched or painted the same location at different moments of the day, a preoccupation that would become a central tenant of the Impressionist painters.
