Jean-Baptiste Dubuisson, Parisian by birth and one of the best pupils of Monnoyer, was better known in Naples and Germany than in his native country. After fulfilling many commissions in Naples, he moved to Berlin in 1711 where he worked for several princely patrons. He later moved to Poland and worked for the court of Augustus III. His oeuvre is often confused with the Neapolitan school painters and this would explain the old attribution to Lopez and a more recent one to Belvedere.

We are grateful to M. Fabrice Faré for suggesting the attribution to Dubuisson, on the basis of photographs.
