Notes

Fiorino, trained as a porcelain painter, decorated a Meissen service for the Saxon royal family. Eventually, extending his artistic endeavors, he established himself as a leading miniature painter and portraitist, leading to his appointment as a court painter at Dresden. Cecil Roth describes Fiorino as 'one of the most brilliant miniaturists of his day' and 'the most distinguished of the Jewish artists of this circle' (Jewish Art, An Illustrated History, New York, Toronto, London, col. 526).
