The panel is made up of four planks, joined vertically with butterfly inset battens between the second and third, and third and fourth planks. The panel is flat and stable, and has been recently cleaned and varnished. In overall very good condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouching to the panel joins, particularly the join between the third and fourth planks. There is also minor retouching to disguise the effect of the craquelure. The still life itself is almost entirely free of retouching and retains much of its impasto.
