inscribed 'Ausführle Beschre Des Ganzen RHEIN-STROM' (in reverse)
pen and grey ink, grey wash heightened with white, pen and grey ink framing lines, the outlines incised
4 7/8 x 5 in. (124 x 143 mm.)

Notes

In reverse by Christoph Riegel as a frontispiece for C. Schneider, Ausführliche und Grundrichtige Beschreibung Des ganzen Rheinstroms, Nurenberg, 1686.

Comparable to Sandrart's illustrations for the Book of Exodus in the Städelsches Kunstinstitut in Frankfurt (E. Schilling, Katalog der Deutschen Zeichnungen, Munich, 1973, nos. 528-36).
