Item Overview

Description

Serigraph in colors on cardboard
Germany, 1971
Johannes Schreiter (born 1930) – German painter, graphic and stained-glass artist
Signed lower right in pencil ‘Schreiter’
Numbered, inscribed and dedicated lower left in pencil ‘14/100 Fazit 17/1971/S – Walter Helmut Fritz gewidmet’
Image dimensions: 64,8 x 49,4 cm

The tension between organic and constructive picture elements is an important theme in the artist's oeuvre. In this graphic he deals with it, too. In the strictly geometrical structure of horizontals and verticals is inserted an organic looking shape in the right half.

The serigraph in color is signed lower right in pencil ‘Schreiter’ and lower left numbered, inscribed and dedicated in pencil ‘14/100 Fazit 17/1971/S – Walter Helmut Fritz gewidmet’. There is a small tear (1 cm) in the right edge. The margins are slightly stained, overall the sheets shows minor signs of age and wear. The overall impression is good. The image measures 64,8 x 49,4 cm, the sheet 70.2 x 54.7 cm.

Johannes Schreiter (born 1930)
Born in Buchholz in the Ore Mountains, the artist studied from 1949 to 1957 at the academies in Münster, Mainz and Berlin. From 1963 to 1987 Schreiter was a professor at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Frankfurt on the Main and even was its director for a few years. Today the artist lives and works in the Hessian town of Langen. Johannes Schreiter is primarily known for his stained glass windows. They can be admired for example in churches in Osnabrück and Goslar, the Minster of Ulm and in the cathedrals of Mainz and Augsburg. (fea)
