John Adams Spelman (MN/Il,1880-1941), At the Lake, oil on canvas, signed lower right "J. A. Spelman" and with artist symbol, depicting fishing shacks and boats along a blue lakeshore with gently rolling hills beyond, housed in a period appropriate carved gilt wood frame. Spelman studied at both the Minneapolis Museum of Art and the Chicago Art Institute. An avid outdoorsman, he spent many summers and winters on the shores of Lake Superior and is most recognized for his views of the lake. He also spent time painting in the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. SS 23.75" x 26.5"; DOA 31.5" x 34.5"
