He left school at the age of 14 and took up paointing as a hobby; at the age of 24 he decided to paint full time from a studio at home. In 1920 he married Florence Balderton and they continued to live in Tottenham. Florence died in 1930 whereupon John Bonny moved to Finningham in Suffolk where he lived until his death in 1948.
