Photo taken on May 10, 1875 near Okmulgee, Indian Territory. Starving Elk was a prominent Cheyenne warrior. He was part of the epic march led by Little Wolf and Dull Knife from Indian Territory back to Montana in 1879-80. See Fowler, Don, The Western Photographs of John K.
