Notes

John Ridgeway was born in Essex, studied at Colchester School of Art and at the Royal College of Art (1958-61). He taught at Scarborough College of Art between 1961-66 and this painting was given to a teaching colleague whilst in Scarborough. He exhibited widely including at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and in York at the Austen Hayes Gallery and Grape Lane Gallery. This abstract landscape reflects a 1960s style of painting, he is better known for painting meticulously detailed landscapes.
