Description

JOHN RILEY WILMER (1883-1941) Rosamund, watercolour, signed and dated 1916, Hibbert Bros. label verso, 29 x 14.5 n.b. Rosamund was the daughter of Walter, Lord Clifford and concubine of Henry II, poisoned by Henry's wife Eleanor of Aquitaine 1177, Henry had a house built for Rosamund, which he named Labyrinthus, designed like a maze, so no one could get to her. Buried at Godstow.
